Message from the Head 15th January 2016

On Thursday all children in upper school took part in cross country trials. It was a great success with all children giving 100%. Thanks to parents for their support on such a chilly afternoon! From the trials children will be selected for our training squad with final selection on Monday 25th January and the first competition on Wednesday 27th. All children will be
informed.
Now that we are a term in, we are encouraging our reception children to come into school independently. When Mrs Gibbs was explaining this to her class one little girl replied ‘but Mrs Gibbs I can’t drive!’ This really made us smile. We would really appreciate your support with this important step and ask that you encourage your child. Children in years 1 & 2 should enter the classroom independently already, mornings are a really busy time and space is very limited so we ask that parents do not accompany their children into classrooms or cloakrooms, teachers and T.A s can support where necessary. It has also been raised as a health and safety concern as at such times pushchairs entering classrooms can obstruct a fire exit. We also have a couple of parents who enter through one classroom and walk through school to another. This is totally against safeguarding
procedures as all adults in school should enter through the main entrance where they are signed in etc. The only exception being assemblies etc and pre-arranged meetings with teachers.
Our year 2 house ambassadors will receive their blazers on Monday if they have not already received them today. They are expected to wear these as part of their uniform please.
Next Friday is a non-uniform day in exchange for a bingo prize. These prizes can be unwanted Christmas gifts which are still new or unused, games, chocolates, toiletries anything that people may want to win. The family bingo night takes place the following Friday January 29th at 6.00pm in Upper School Hall. This is usually a great evening- fun for all the family. Bingo books are £1.00 per book or 6 for £5.00—there are 10 games per book. Please come along and support the event if you can.
Reception Parents We are holding 2 parent meetings for our reception parents next Tuesday about literacy in foundation stage. This will give essential information about the age related expectations for the end of the year and how you can best support your child to reach these. Please try to attend either of the meetings-one will be held at 2.15pm and the other at 6.00pm. A similar Maths event is scheduled straight after half term.
