Message from the Head – 16th September 2016

  • The children have enjoyed our whole school focus on Roald Dahl who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this week, particularly Year 4 who had a terrific Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed dance day. The children have an opportunity to win a golden ticket for a special treat by completing the Roald Dahl quiz sheet attached to this week’s newsletter. All correct entries will be entered into a draw to select our golden ticket winners. The draw will take place on MONDAY. There are limited tickets so only those who return completed correct quiz sheets on Monday will be entered!!!

  • The 15 children who went to see the Flying Scotsman this week had a great time. They had the privilege of going on board and seeing the steam engine being fired up. We were extremely impressed with how knowledgeable they were and how excited they were to see the train, real steam enthusiasts!

  • As many of you may have noticed we have welcomed a new Business Manager to school. Mrs Thomas has joined us and is based between the two sites. She joins Mrs Mellor and Mrs Akers at the Upper School and Mrs Gorring and Mrs Pearson in the Lower School. This is a great team, always happy to help. We have noticed that a lot of enquiries at the office are simply requests for forms, leaflets, letters etc. We have now put many of these on stands in each foyer so parents/carers are able to help themselves.

  • We are hosting a course for parents this term which is facilitated by an organisation called Malachi and is funded by the Local Authority. The aim is to improve children’s behaviour and emotional well being supporting parents and carers. We are offering this to parents of any child in Reception in the first instance. Although if your child is older and you think you could benefit please let us know. It is intended to benefit all parents/carers and we have some leaflets about the programme in reception and Julian Lee, who will be running the programme, will be around at the MacMillan Coffee Morning should you wish to find out a little more. The first session will then take place the following Friday, October 7th. Each session will start with tea and coffee in the Skamps room at the rear of the school where we will also run a crèche if it is needed for the hour and a half whist parents are in the next room. The course has had a proven impact in Birmingham schools and it is a great way to meet other parents so please consider it. It will be condensed into 10 weeks from 9:00 – 10:30 on Friday mornings.

  • CONGRATULATIONS to our newly appointed House and Vice Captains and House Ambassadors. Thank you to all those who put themselves forward, in some cases it was very close indeed! We have presented badges, but blazers which need to be worn/or in school every day will be presented shortly.

  • If you are a parent/carer of a Reception child please ensure that you come along to either of the literacy meetings on Monday to discover how literacy is taught and how you can support your child.

  • Over the weekend we will be having bright soft flooring installed to enhance the outdoor area for our Reception children. A huge THANK YOU to Grace Hood and her team at Tesco for arranging a fundraising day to support us with the cost. They raised almost £600 – thanks to all who supported!
